Llyn Gwynant in beautiful Snowdonia

Yesterday I decided I desperately needed to get away from the christmas crowds and went in search of some snow. It was an amazingly crisp and clear day as we headed for Snowdonia, the scenery was so fantastic as we headed through Capel Curig and on past Llyn Gwynant that we had to stop not once, not twice, but three times so I could take a picture!

Following much stopping and starting we finally reached the start of the walk – we had decided to walk the Rhud ddu path up to Snowdon as it is less touristy and we hadn’t done that route before, and we were pretty much guaranteed some snow on the highest mountain in England and Wales – surely?!

We weren’t disappointed, and after about half way up we started to see some snow crystal formations on the ground and as we walked higher and higher it started to get thicker and thicker until the whole landscape was white – it was amazing to see and a great feeling to be walking in the snow for the first time this winter. We eventually put on our crampons as we walked higher and higher, it was unbelievably peaceful with nobody else in sight. The clouds had settled above us, blocking our view to the summit but it didn’t matter – it was beautiful!

We finally found some snow!

We finally reached the summit and shared it with only two other people (oh, and a handful of choughs and a dozy seagul!). We sheltered and had our lunch before heading back down for a well deserved drink in the nearby pub.

I felt completely refreshed and revived, the walk was just what I needed. Sometimes when things start to get on top of you it’s good to take a step back, do something you love doing and then go back refreshed and ready to tackle things with a new perspective, and an open mind…
