About Helen…

Having done the typical beach holiday as a young woman I eventually realised this wasn’t for me, I couldn’t sit on a beach or by a poolside for more than two hours before needing to get up and do something! I was 29 when I separated amicably with my boyfriend of 10 years and suddenly realised I no longer had anybody to share or even go on my adventures with. All my friends had settled down and had children, and I suddenly felt stuck and uncomfortable. I wanted to continue doing adventurous things that challenged my boundaries and gave me a sense of excitement and fulfilment but I had no one to do these things with, and with many adventurous sports being male dominated I suddenly felt out of my comfort zone.

Through a friend of a friend I was fortunate enough to meet a friend with the same adventurous spirit and since then we have been on many adventures including walking, climbing and cycling in the UK, trekking in the Pyrenees and Alps and North Africa, walking and Via Ferratas in the Italian Dolomites and walking in the Himalayas and India.

This made me realise that there must be other women who would love to do something different, to try something new or challenge themselves but may not have anybody to do this with, and so from this I developed Desperately Seeking Adventure…

With a degree in Sports Science, and various other sports-related qualifications, I understand the importance of exercise not only for physical health but also for our mental well-being and general confidence. Fully Mountain Leader qualified, and a member of the Mountain Rescue Team I have years of experience walking in the UK, Europe, Asia and Africa. I also have teaching qualifications, and have many years experience working with people developing skills such as communication, team building and problem solving whilst also improving confidence and motivation. I’m passionate about the outdoors, there are so many beautiful places to explore and discover, and I want to help other people discover this!

When not on an adventure, I like to spend time with friends and family, reading an interesting novel or planning my next adventure!
